The recent hot weather in Newcastle triggered a 233% surge in the sale of fans for local sleepless people, according to new data released today by Amazon.

Sales data from Amazon’s ultra-fast delivery service, Prime Now, showed that sales of fans in Newcastle rose by 233% in the last week and spiked by 579% nationally, coinciding with the sharp rise in temperatures.

This year, Amazon has created the #NowItsSummer store making it even easier for customers to search for the best products to make the most of the ever-changing British summer, whatever the weather. Other popular purchases on Prime Now include Buxton Natural Mineral water and Haagen-Dazs Salted Caramel Ice Cream.

The products are delivered in one and two-hour delivery windows, helping sweaty sleepers get to grips with the hotter nights.

Jason Weston, Director of Prime Now in the UK, said: “The tradeoff for a sunny summer is an occasional sleepless night, and shoppers around the country were buying fans for urgent delivery in an attempt to get some rest. Prime Now offers one and two-hour delivery from morning to night, which means shoppers can get a last-minute fan if the bedroom has been baking all day in the heat and they need to quickly cool down.”

The fans are among the 20,000 products available on Prime Now. For further Prime Now information and eligible delivery postcodes visit
