Has too much partying and not enough exercise caused you to pile on the pounds?
Then don’t fret my fuller figure friend, here are some weight loss cheats to help you lose that unwanted extra baggage without even saying the word “Gym.”
1. Eat Breakfast
Eating breakfast gets your matabalism going for the day, making your body burn fat more efficiently – and you won’t be as hungry.
2. SHED POUNDS WITH GREEN TEA AND CHILLIES
The perfect weight-loss combo; a hot curry washed down with some green tea. A paper published in the journal Clinical Nutrition found that green tea and chillies are even more powerful combined than when eaten alone. This is because they are both thermogenic – meaning they heat up the body, making it burn more fat.
3. BURN EXTRA CALORIES BY CHEWING GUM
University of Rhode Island researchers have found that chewing sugar-free gum reduces the amount you eat and speeds up your metabolism.
A separate study published in the journal Appetite found that gum-chewers ate 36% fewer calories each time they snacked because their appetite had been sated. Chewing gum burns eleven extra calories per hour. That’s 19% more calories than just sitting in front of your computer screen.
While that doesn’t sound like a lot, if you chew for four hours daily it adds up to 4.5lbs per year. And that’s without counting the calorie savings from the snacks you’re not eating.
4. PREVENT HUNGER PANGS BY EATING BLUEBERRIES
A recent study by the University of Michigan found that eating blueberries burns belly fat, even if you eat a high-fat diet. A previous 2007 study by the University of Illinois found that blueberries can stop your from overeating.
Men fed blueberry extract before a meal ate 9% less than their counterparts.
“Antioxidants may trigger receptors in your upper intestine that tell your brain you’re full,” says lead researcher Dr Abdul Molan. This translates into a loss of about 5lb per year if you eat one Punnet of berries per day.
5. LOSE WEIGHT BY HAVING A LIE-IN
A study by the Associated Professional Sleep Societies has found that men lose three times more weight while sleeping than while watching TV.
This is because your brain (which only comprises of 2% of your body’s weight) uses 20% of the body’s calories. When you enter REM sleep the brain is working three times harder than normal, thus burning more calories.
So, next time you’re late for work simply tell your boss the reason for your poor timekeeping is that you’ve been actively improving your health. I’m sure he/she will understand.
