MALE grooming product sales are at an all time high, and it’s no coincidence. More and more men have embraced the desire to fine-tune their appearance and are subsequently craving the plethora of grooming products which are available on the market, but are they doing it right? Yes, bad habits in the bathroom have consequences too. Make these tiny tweaks now and get ready to give good face every day in 2016…
1. Get your own gear
According to a survey, a whopping three quarters of men steal their partner’s beauty products. You might think it’s a great way to save cash, but men have thicker, oilier skin than women, so you need products that are tailored to your needs.
2. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!
That’s grooming-speak for giving your mug a good scrub. Men have larger pores, whiskers and produce more sweat, which together can attract a whole lot of dirt. Top tip: use a toothbrush with your exfoliator (we like Rituals Samurai Scrub for a deeper clean).
3. Invest in a beard oil
Beards are cool (fact), but stubble rash is not – just ask your missus. Use a beard softening oil, such as this one from Murdock London, daily to nip those ‘it’s like kissing a cactus’ complaints in the bud.
4. Master manscaping
When it comes to body hair, there’s a fine line between looking like a hirsute hunk and hairier than Big Foot. For your ears and nose to your back and (ah’em) beyond, invest in a trimmer with different guard lengths to stay trimmed. This BaByliss styler does it all.
5. Learn how to hide a heavy weekend
Monday morning eye-bags are not a good look. Your hangover arsenal should include eye drops, a cooling eye roller (we like the Clinique for Men Anti-Fatigue Eye Gel) and LOTS of water. Oh, and never skip your shave. Dead giveaway.
6. Banish bacne
That’s back acne, FYI. Swap to a skin-clearing body wash such as Korres Sage and Salicylic Acid Regulating Gel, and use a body brush (such as this one from The Body Shop) to gently scrub your back. And always shower right after a workout – sweat is the ultimate pore-clogger.
