A Newcastle restaurant is taking inspiration from the gunpowder plot and lavish 17th century feasts for its specially crafted Bonfire Banquet seasonal showcase, in what will be its last tasting menu of 2015.
artisan, located in The Biscuit Factory – the UK’s largest arts, craft and design gallery – hosts its Bonfire Banquet Seasonal Showcase on Wednesday, 4 November 2015.
Head Chef and North East Chef of the Year winner, Andrew Wilkinson, has created a menu peppered with historical references that have been interpreted for the modern palate using some of the region’s finest seasonal produce.
Some of the dishes on the seven-course Bonfire Banquet menu include: Beetroot Cured Salmon with Cucumber Relish and Smoked Mackerel Pate; Mulled Cider Sorbet; Loin of Venison with Shoulder Suet Pudding, Fruits, Spices and Pickled Cabbage; and Spiced Crème Brulee with White Chocolate, Gingerbread and Clementines.
The à la carte restaurant, which boasts a 25-foot glass wall showcasing the latest collections of contemporary sculpture on display in the adjoining gallery, hosts its Seasonal Showcase event the first Wednesday of every month.
The showcases feature a six or seven-course tasting menu and celebrate an ingredient, a type of cooking or time of year. This year, artisan’s culinary journey has featured everything from wild foraging and British classics to superfoods and fruits of the forest.
The Bonfire Banquet Seasonal Showcase is priced at £38.50 per person, with an optional flight of wine at £25 per person. Places must be booked in advance.
A new programme of monthly showcases, encompassing a decadent dinner, new season shoots and an allotment harvest, will get under way in February 2016.
