The Great British Cupcakery – Bakehouse & Parlour is located on Queens Street, Newcastle. This ‘Baking utopia’ was created with love by Mother and Daughters, Carole Golden, Leoni Avison and Naomi Carpenter after they traded careers in hospitality to pursue their passion for gourmet baking.
These hard working Ladies don’t just vend scrumptious cakes from this parlour; they also create edible works of art for special occasions including weddings, christenings, baby showers, birthday parties and corporate events.
“The Hospitality industries’ loss is certainly our gain!”
The Parlour oozes quirkiness, like the delicious cream in one of their cakes, from a regalesque logo which is a crest of arms consisting of a cupcake adorned with a crown and guarded by a Wisk and Sieve, to the quaint china teacups suspended as window decorations. The décor is quintessentially ‘Shabby Chic’ with its rustic white furniture, chandeliers and dainty ornaments. It reminds me of a giant dolls house, the perfect setting for tea and cakes, I’m sure you will agree?
The cakes are abundant in variety, reasonably priced and taste sublime. To name but a few, there are; Multi layered cakes, Traditional Victorian sponges, Cheesecakes, Brownies, Mini Pavolvas and more variations of cupcake than you could shake a stick at! The Parlour offers a very reasonably priced Cream Tea comprising of a delicately homemade scone with jam and cream accompanied by a pot of tea for just £3.95.
If you wish to really indulge yourself, loosen all tight clothing and order the High Tea. This truly memorable, proud to be British, experience begins with a selection of sandwiches and savouries accompanied by a freshly baked scone smothered in cream and jam and of course enough baked goodies to satisfy the most discerning sweet tooth; all presented on a quirky collection of vintage china!
The Great British Cupcakery Motto is “Hello Lovely!”
Hello Lovely indeed!
