A new bar, which owners say will be “a million miles away” from its former life as a cheap trebles bar, is due to open near Central Station this Spring.
Taking over the now closed Gotham Town, which was famous for cheap drinks and the kind of carpets that made you want to wipe your feet on the way out, The Gunner is due to open within weeks.
Crafted Projects, the leisure company which is behind Pleased to Meet You and other top city centre bars, bought the site 18 months ago and are now giving the venue a massive makeover.
The whole place is being stripped back to create a much more upmarket offering more in-keeping with other establishments in the area such as The Town Wall and The Forth.
The focus will be on top quality beer, and the Gunner will also sell food, with an original menu currently under development.
Crafted Projects director Barry Ladhar said: “The Gunner is going to be an old style craft beer pub, similar in style to other exciting bars in our portfolio including Lady Grey’s.
“We’re taking all that we’ve learned from all of the best bars we have to create a new craft beer venue but with traditional pub sense.
“Crafted Projects has already made investments in that area with Central, and this is recognising that working with peers at the Town Wall and The Forth we can add to that whole circuit”
Crafted projects also owns nearby Central as well as Redhouse, Lady Greys, Pleased to Meet You, Hop & Cleaver across the City Centre.
He added: “We’re really excited about the whole level of investment that has been occurring in and around central station area and we want to add our own investment, and follow in the footsteps of recent refurbishments of The Forth and the reboot at the Town Wall.
This will be one more great offering for this part of the city.”
