Is it just us, or does the new year always inspire an urge to shake things up? Whether it’s a wardrobe clean out or trying out that boot camp fitness class (good luck!), it’s the perfect time to try something new. We think the quickest route to a refresh is a hair overhaul, so we’ve compiled a list of this year’s hottest ‘dos. From hair contouring to the ‘LOB’ (that’s the long bob), these are the hottest cuts and colours right now…

THE LOB
That’s the long bob, FYI, and it’s the cut of the moment. Ask for a chop that finishes somewhere around your shoulders with long, choppy layers to add texture – à la Rosie, Cheryl and J-Law – and use a texturising spray for added movement; try Kérastase’s Spray à Porter.

THE MOUSY, DIRTY BLONDE
No longer meek, mousy blonde is the hottest colour right now, with stars including Elle Macpherson, Taylor Swift and Diane Kruger ditching high-impact highlights for mousy meets dirty blonde all-over. Keep things glam and glossy with a shine spray such as ghd’s Final Shine spray.

THE BANG BRIGADE
If we learned anything about hair from the SS16 shows at Vera Wang, Acne and Rebecca Minkoff, it’s that fringes are back in a BIG way. This season, the look has a ‘70s vibe – think long, full and relaxed. Don’t want to commit? Invest in a clip-in winge (that’s wig-fringe) and fake your way into the bang brigade – try ‘The Sharp’ by Hershesons.

THE CONTOURED MANE
Forget facial contouring – right now it’s all about hair contouring. Think a personalised colour plan that uses highlights and lowlights to create shadow and depth, bringing out your best features. Want to carve out killer cheekbones? Opt for highlights placed around your cheeks. Or to soften a square face, try lowlights around your hairline.

THE MAXI CURLS
Bouncy curls made a major comeback on the SS16 runways. Our favourite incarnation was at Diane Von Furstenberg, where the models were transformed into ‘70s disco divas. Not blessed with naturally curly locks? Recreate the look with a styling wand (try this Babyliss 19mm model or head to the salon for a pro blow-dry ahead of a big night out.
