LUXURY high street jeweller Goldsmiths has crowned the lucky winner of its Mother’s Day competition which was hosted in the intu Eldon Square showroom.
Annmarie Grant, 37 from Walker, was chosen for the special memory she shared of her Mum Sharnea, which told of her struggle when she was younger with bullies at school. A teacher now herself, Annmarie used to be comforted by her Mum, who told her every day to rise above the nasty words and that her day would come to shine.
Annmarie said: “My Mum’s unwavering support and belief in me throughout the time I was bullied instilled a confidence in me that I still carry today. She used to play me the song Homely Girl by the Chi-Lites and every time I hear it, I’m reminded of my Mum and what she taught me.
“I’m thrilled that my story captured the hearts of the Goldsmiths team at intu Eldon Square and can’t wait to give my special prize to my Mum as a thank you for everything she’s done for me.”
The competition, which ran across Mother’s Day weekend, encouraged customers to share their favourite memories of mums, grandmas, sisters, aunties and mother figures alike to celebrate special ladies all over the North East.
On being selected, Annmarie returned to the store to collect her prize – a diamond pendant worth £500 and a £100 gift card to spend in Goldsmiths.
As an additional gesture to Annmarie and Sharnea, Goldsmiths is donating a pendant and earring set to local charity, South Tyneside Against Bullying, as a raffle prize to raise funds towards their work with young people in the region.
Goldsmiths is the UK’s largest high street retailer with over 100 stores nationwide and online at: goldsmiths.co.uk.
