The inspiration for the event comes from Newcastle’s 44 Creative Marketing’s years of putting on parties revolving around quality music content and or art. However, they’re huge fans of food! Over the years they’ve had the pleasure of working with incredible operators and emerging businesses, so I guess they’re trusted.

When 44 approached Fred from The Tyne Bar about their concept and with intentions to hold Round 1 at his place, he was totally on board with the idea. All they had to do is put the word out to the vendors. The response has been massive with enough offers to fill the next few events. However, 44 are focused firmly on round one for now, with, in their eyes, some of the best independent food providers the city has to offer.

The 44 brand simply had to have the likes of Jam Jar, Lola Jeans, and Longhorns in the mix – after all they are known for their burgers, meat offering, and above all else their quality in execution.

So the criteria…

The event will consist of 7 guest vendors and 1 host vendor. Each of the 8 vendors will provide a scaled down burger/slider which best showcases their establishment within the £3.00 price point. Burgers will be purchased via token, with each token comes a vote card. Buy 3 burgers, cast three votes. It’s as simple as that. That combined with the votes cast by our guest judges and by Monday we will have announced our winner. Undisputed. There will be some great guest judges representing a few sides of the coin, from scene media, to representing the people, and a professional opinion.

All this will be accompanied by two days of programmed music and easy beers. One of the best things about the event is that it’s completely free entry, open to everyone even if they are not partaking in gorging themselves.

The event has already had 1,000 people confirm to attend via Facebook and 44 only released a hand full of the particulars.

To say we’re excited is an understatement.
