Newcastle’s brand new Caribbean restaurant and bar, Turtle Bay, has announced a partnership with local Newcastle Charity – The Chronicle Sunshine Fund.
This Tuesday 9th February, the first official day of trading for the restaurant, diners will only be asked to pay whatever they think their authentic Caribbean food was worth. The amount that each table decides to pay, Turtle Bay will match, and then the total amount collected at the end of the opening day, from the entire first day, will be donated to the Sunshine Fund!
The Sunshine Fund raises money to provide specialist equipment and improve the quality of life for children with disabilities and serious illnesses in the North East.
The money raised by Turtle Bay on their opening day will help to raise funds for
local children right here in the North East. From specialized wheelchairs, to hosts and iPads, the money raised will make a huge difference to the children and their familiars.
Ajith Jayawakimera, Turtle Bay’s Founder said: “We’re really delighted to have established this relationship with The Sunshine Fund ahead of opening our Newcastle restaurant. The work they do is inspiring. This idea means that the better our staff do during opening day, the more we’ll raise for the charity!”
Clare Savory, Head of Fundraising at The Sunshine Fund said: “ A huge thank you to Turtle Bay for choosing to support the Sunshine Fund, we are very grateful for their support. We encourage as many people as possible to visit the restaurant on Tuesday, as the money raised will really make a huge difference to the children we can support”
Turtle Bay’s Newcastle restaurant (their first in the North East) will seat 150 covers, over 4200 sq ft in the historic Co-operative Building on Newgate Street, right in the heart of the city. The new venture which has created 50 jobs, offers its diners a choice of over 50 authentic Caribbean dishes.
