Last-minute sales of DVDs and other comfy essentials warm up for winter
The end of Summer time and darkening winter nights have helped trigger a sharp rise in sales of last-minute, cosy essentials in Newcastle according to figures released today by Prime Now, Amazon’s ultra-fast delivery service.
Geordies are opting for an impulse Sunday on the sofa, with deliveries of DVDs and sweet treats peaking on Sunday afternoons across the city.
Local shoppers are taking advantage of Amazon’s Prime Now delivery service to stock up on DVDs, snacks and other comfy essentials like blankets and throws to enjoy at home, as winter draws nearer.
The orders are placed and delivered within one or two hours. This means the choice to have a cosy day in can be made at breakfast time on the same day, with the goodies delivered before it’s even time to do the washing up.
Among the most popular DVD orders for customers are Ryan Gosling’s The Nice Guys (Blu-ray) and Captain America: Civil War (Blu-ray 3D)
The top 5 best-selling DVDs across Newcastle are:
1. The Nice Guys (Blu-ray)
2. Captain America: Civil War (3D Blu-ray)
3. Deadpool (Blu-ray)
4. Captain America: Civil War (Blu-ray)
5. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition Blu-ray)
As well as purchasing DVDs, Geordies are also stocking up on snacks to enjoy alongside their movie with Morrisons Bourbon Creams the bestselling biscuits and Walkers French Fries the crisps of choice. To top off the cosy feel, customers are also impulse buying blankets to keep them warm on the sofa, with sales of large throws rising by 250% between September and October.
Jason Weston, director of Prime Now, said: “Movies, snacks and blankets are the perfect combination for a Sunday on the sofa for shoppers in Newcastle as we head into winter.
