THE BOTANIST Newcastle has celebrated raising over £8,000 for the Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF) after partnering with the charity when it first opened in December 2014.
Throughout the course of 2015, the bar and restaurant ran a series of incentives to boost the fundraising pot and setting out plans only in December of reaching £5,000, it smashed its target by adding £4,000 to the total in the final month of the fundraising campaign.
The Botanist general manager Andrew Shiel-Redfern handed over a cheque to the charity during the venue’s first birthday celebrations at the end January.
“We’ve set the bar high but we plan to continue our charity efforts in 2016 and raise even more money for our region’s worthy causes.” – Botanist general manager Andrew Shiel-Redfern
Chris Gray, head of fundraising at CHUF said: “It’s incredible to receive £8,100 from The Botanist. They have had a whirlwind of a year so we’re thrilled to share in their success. The donation will go towards the Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital to provide world-class care to critically ill babies, children and young people.“We also have to say a huge thank you to Andy for his amazing effort in the Great North Run and his fundraising total of £1,100. We’re looking forward to partnering with The New World Trading Company again in the future.”
Andrew said: “CHUF certainly has a place in my heart and we’ve heard so many positive stories about the work that the team does from our customers – it plays such a vital role in the North East community.
“It’s been a pleasure working with Chris and it feels great to know that the funds can now be spent on children and their families in need. I’m proud of a lot of achievements we’ve been able to toast in our first year as a business but this tops them“We’ve set the bar high but we plan to continue our charity efforts in 2016 and raise even more money for our region’s worthy causes.”
